Off to Hotel Istana we went. We chose this venue to celebrate papa's 54th birthday this year. He was in for a surprise as he had no clue where we were bringing him (okay... more like, he had no idea where he was exactly driving to XP)
So, we got to the hotel and went to Taman Sari Brasserie restaurant. We were greeted by a pleasant lady who ushered us to our table.

They served local appetisers like gado-gado and Singaporean styled Indian Rojak too.

You can make your own salads, they have prepared an assortment of dressings and various colored fresh veggies to help with your digestion.

Butter Prawn! I love how they keep topping this dish up each time it goes out!
The big star definitely goes to the beriyani, cooked to perfection if I do say so myself - taste wise, presentation wise and ugh the amazing aroma! I loved the side dishes that go along beautifully with this fragrantly colored, cooked basmati rice.
Condiments from chutneys and savory mint sauces
Traditional Malay ulams (herbs), salads and spicy side sauces
Fresh meats from beef, chicken to seafood to grill!
This station served local noodles dishes. Soupy goodness, I tell ya!
Roti John station
I wanted to try EVERYTHING so I had a taste test for every dish. LOL XD
Fresh fruits, shaved ice with sweet toppings like cendol and ais kacang
Generous slices of cakes, puddings and pastries
We teamed up with the staff at the restaurant to give a surprise birthday cake with a song for my papa. They did a fine job! Great initiative with the birthday song via surround speakers! Thank you, guys!
Overall, we had a splendid time as a family celebrating our papa's birthday. Food was delicious and the ambiance was pleasant. I would definitely be back for their aromatic beriyani, they served the best in town! They could improve on other assortments of dishes they serve to make it look more appetizing and up-to-date. I wish they would also update certain areas of the hotel, the restrooms are VERY clean and updated, so that's a plus! However, I hope to see more of the outdated parts of the hotel to be renovated soon.
I will rate this hotel buffet based on Location set from (Easy to find, Quite secluded or Hard to find), Design set from (Outdated, Somewhat Updated, Updated), Choices set from (Limited Options, Standard Options, Foodie's Wonderland), Taste set from '1' being very bland to '10' being very delicious, Cleanliness set from '1' being very unhygienic to '10' being very hygienic
